The WHNA Adopt-A-Spot at the corner of West Main Street and Grandview Avenue was attacked to remove the many weeds that sprouted over the past couple of months.  About 15 bags of weeds were removed from the area which brought it back to a presentable appearance.  Many thanks to the volunteers who made this possible.

Waterbury's Provisional Public Works Director, Louis Spina Jr., will be our guest at the March 12th meeting.  Everyone from our neighborhood should plan to attend to take advantage of the opportunity to bring their Public Works issues to the City's attention.  Our meetings have discussed the problems caused by the lack of storm drains on Lakeside Boulevard East, the hazardous blind driveway at the Golf View complex on Park Road and the need for curve-warning signs on Park Road.  Please put this meeting on your calendar to discuss these issues with Mr. Spina.

WHNA would like to thank Raechel Guest for her excellent presentation regarding her research on the private Deer Park that was established circa 1750 in the area that is now east of the Western Hills Golf Course.  The access road to the Deer Park developed into what is now Park Road, even though the Deer Park was apparently dissolved before 1800.  The Western Woods property still contains features that were described in the early documents, including a "stone path" that was a feature of the Park.

Adopt-A-Spot Cleanup on Saturday, May 12

Many thanks to the WHNA members who worked on the Adopt-A-Spot at the corner of Grandnew Avenue and West Main Street on Saturday, May 12.  The crew spent almost three hours removing weeds and saplings between the rows of Juniper.  Being part mountain goat helps on this steep area!
Thanks also to Bonnie Orintas who was successful in contacting Public Works to get the grass area mowed in support of our efforts on the hillside.
The WHNA Adopt-A-Spot was cleaned on Saturday, May 12 and the grass area was mowed (after this photo)
